A vampire Duck is a species prominent in Count Duckula. As name suggest, it is a duck who is also a vampire.

Abilities

  • Teleportation - Shown several times in the series, Vampire Ducks may have ability to teleport from one place to another in a cloud of smoke.
    • The Present Count Duckula, Don Diego, and Count Duckula 14th (Great-grandfather) are shown using this ability in episodes.
  • Bloodlust - Using their fangs, Vampire Ducks suck blood of their victims. It is mentioned many times even if not shown in series itself.
    • The Present Count Duckula does not have this trait as he is a vegetarian.
  • Reincarnation - Unknown if ability unique to the Counts of Duckula, or possible by all Vampire Ducks. Count Duckula is able to be revived, though not retain any memories and have different personality, by performing a sacred rite once a century when the moon is in the eighth house of Aquarius.

Weaknesses

Vampire Duck weakness vary between individuals or even reincarnations. A Vampire Duck may have one, more, or all of these weaknesses.

  • A stake through the heart - Mentioned in opening, by Dr. Von Goosewing in Family Reunion, and by the innkeeper in Dear Diary to be the only surefire way to completely destroy a vampire is by hammering a sharpened wooden stake through their heart.
    • It is assumed this is one common weakness between all of Vampire Ducks.
  • Sunlight - Mentioned in opening and by Duckula in Dr. Goosewing and Mr. Duck. Sunlight is a weakness of some Vampire Ducks.
    • Characters shown with this weakness are a previous Duckula incarnation in opening, Present Count Duckula when under effects of Dr. Von Goosewing's Patent Carpet Shampooing Cleaner und Spot Remover, and the statue replica of Count Duckula IV. Duckula 14th (Great-grandfather) is implied to have sunlight weakness in Dear Diary.
    • Vampires in Spain, Don Diego, Rory McDuckula, Present Count Duckula, Ambassador Count Duckula (previous incarnation), and the Prehistoric Vampire Duck in Transylvanian Homesick Blues do not have this weakness.
    • The Knight Count Duckula (previous incarnation), Duckula's family in family reunion, and Count Duckula the First are only shown inside or in overcast weather settings. It is unknown if they have weakness of sunlight.
  • Garlic - Garlic is stated in Dear Diary to keep Vampire Ducks at bay, used as a "powerful anti-vampire medicine". It is said to make Vampire Ducks "weak and wobbily".
    • The Present count duckula implies he may not have this weakness in Family Reunion, as he is vegetarian.
    • It is unknown if other Vampire Ducks in series have this weakness.
  • Mirrors - Not a weakness, but will expose a vampire's identity to ordinary people, as shown in Restoration Comedy. Vampire Ducks will have no reflection.
  • Silver - Traditional Vampires are stated to be repelled or weak to silver, though it is not mentioned much in series.
    • The present Count Duckula does not have this weakness, seen sometimes interacting with silver cutlery.

Trivia

  • Some buildings seen decorated with large amounts of Garlic to ward off Vampires. Such as the Tooth and Jugular Inn in Dear Diary, and Dr. Von Goosewing's house in the Celebrity Pubs comics.
  • Though have bloodlust, Vampires sometimes shown to be picky about type of blood they drink.
