He and Igor happen to be "old friends" from when they were still students.

Role in episode

Krool is first introduced when the Phantom is looking for his cloak and mask at the very beginning of the episode.

Krool assists his master, the Phantom, in fulfilling his dastardly deeds and almost everything else. The Phantom seems to enjoy berating or insulting Krool. For instance, he describes Krool as a "lazy dog" when he is looking for his cloak and mask. However, despite the Phantom's cruel remarks, Krool is very submissive and loyal to him.

Krool and Igor bump into each other when he is hurrying to obey his master. They recognize each other because they were friends in the "class of '33". Igor says that Krool was "top in dungeon maintenance and torture techniques." It is here that Krool reveals to Igor that he is working for the Phantom. Krool advises Igor to leave the opera because his master is planning something evil, something which will make "even his blood turn cold." Igor tells Krool to stop when he starts to explain the Phantom's plan in more detail because he was starting to get "jealous" because it had been a while since he had done anything evil himself.

Igor starts to regret having Count Duckula as his master and wishes that he was at least half as malevolent as his father. He decides he wants to offer his services to the Phantom and Krool as well to "get a chance to do something wicked." However, Igor proves his loyalty to the Duckula family later when the Phantom's plan doesn't go according to plan. Krool and the Phantom end up fleeing together to the Grand Ole' Oprey House in Nashville (United States of America) where the Phantom becomes the so-called "Phantom of the Oprey".

Trivia

  • The pronunciation of the name Krool is similar to that of the word 'cruel'.
  • Krool's character is based on that of Peter Lorre, an Austro-Hungarian-born American actor. Lorre starred in many Hollywood crime and mystery films and was frequently typecast as a sinister foreigner.
  • Only Krool appears to be able to hear the Phantom in the opera.
